Signs of Depression You Shouldn’t Ignore

2025-08-22 By Keith Ewan

Depression is a common symptom among many people these days, and its manifestations vary widely. In severe cases, symptoms can include generalized discomfort, neurasthenia, insomnia, frequent dreams, a constant feeling of fatigue, despair, and helplessness, as well as slowed reaction times and frequent periods of daze. In severe cases, suicidal thoughts can arise, making timely treatment crucial.

The classic symptom of depression is melancholy, but this mood is common to everyone. Work problems, unsatisfactory interpersonal relationships, and other factors can cause feelings of melancholy and boredom, leading to a desire to do nothing. However, depression usually returns to normal after a period of time, so timely treatment is crucial. Let's take a look at the symptoms of depression.

  1. Various Physical Aches
People with a tendency toward depression or those experiencing depression in the early stages may experience various physical discomforts, including weakness and aches in the limbs, dizziness, stomach pain, and loss of appetite. Often, medical examinations don't reveal any major issues, but these symptoms may be precursors to depression.
  1. Insomnia, Frequent Dreams, and Neurasthenia
Occasional insomnia isn't a cause for concern, but chronic insomnia and sleep disturbances—even when asleep, frequent dreams, especially nightmares, daytime drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating—are, are serious sleep problems. Poor sleep can gradually drain your body, and neurasthenia can leave you feeling completely drained and irritable.
  1. Frequent Feelings of Despair and Helplessness
People with depression often experience feelings of despair, helplessness, and depression over trivial matters. They become restless and mentally unstable, unable to see hope in life and unable to arouse interest in anything.
  1. Constant Tiredness
People prone to depression often feel overwhelmed. This isn't a sign of aging, but rather the personal impact of their emotions. They're constantly tired and don't feel like doing anything, even eating or addressing personal health concerns.
  1. Slowed reaction times and occasional daze-like states
People with depression may experience daze-like states, taking their time washing their face, brushing their teeth, or even getting out of bed. Sometimes, it's like clockwork has stopped. Many people don't worry about this, perhaps simply dismissing it as a distraction
  1. Frequent suicidal or suicidal thoughts
This is the most terrifying state. People with depression feel the world is bleak and there's no good way to alleviate their inner depression. They may even become deeply disappointed in themselves, seeking to end everything they face by understanding life, believing that existence has no meaning. Suicidal thoughts often arise in their minds.
